Global Mapper 14.2Blue Marble Geographics is pleased to announce the release of Global Energy Mapper version 14.2. The latest release of this powerful GIS software for energy professionals offers many new and improved features and functions. Some of the major improvements include a new pile volume calculator in the Digitizer Tool, further improvements to the Pad Site placement tool, many scripting and LiDAR enhancements, and, of course, many new formats.

Blue Marble’s geospatial data manipulation, visualization, and conversion solutions are used worldwide by thousands of GIS analysts at software, oil and gas, mining, civil engineering, surveying, and technology companies, as well as governmental and university organizations.

Global Energy Mapper 14.2 introduces improved volume measurement capability with the addition of the pile volume calculator.  This innovative tool quickly and precisely determines the volume of material in a pile and is ideally suited for anyone in the mining or extraction industry.  The results of this calculation can be provided to an engineer or contractor to facilitate an accurate determination of the work and cost involved in removing the material in question.

Version 14.2 also includes enhancements to the popular Pad Site placement tool. This component of Global Energy Mapper provides the means to add a template drilling pad or any other structure to a defined location. The update allows the pad to be precisely anchored to a specific location by simply typing in a known set of coordinates.

The 14.2 release also includes many scripting updates and additions, including support for calculating attributes, splitting layers, and interactively prompting users for files and folders.  There are also many LiDAR enhancements such as the option to search by elevation and the ability to apply colors based on return value. This allows users to easily see when there are multiple returns and is excellent for performing vegetation analysis. One of the defining characteristics of Global Energy Mapper is the amount of files formats it supports for both import and export. Among the formats added in version 14.2, is the UKOOA P6/98 format, which is used in seismic survey work. This addition is further evidence of Global Energy Mapper’s commitment to the oil and gas industry.

“Energy GIS professionals are realizing that they can save time and money with in-office engineering work,” states Blue Marble President Patrick Cunningham  “Global Energy Mapper is a great tool for estimating field work in the GIS environment.  The 14.2 enhancements continue to reinforce that workflow.”
