Developers, startups and universities from geospatial industry will meet for the first time in Brazil

MundoGEO is pleased to announce a whole new event in 2014, focused on developing solutions to society using geospatial information. MundoGEOXperience – Geographic Ideas Marathon – will be held from May 7 thru 9, parallel to the 4th edition of MundoGEO#Connect LatinAmerica 2014 – Conference and Trade Fair of Geomatics and Geospatial Solutions. This event will feature integration, competition and the development of innovative solutions in order to meet the demands of the society, by using location attributes and geographic analysis.

“This new event aims to create a space where the academic community and prominent young people will be able to showcase their projects and solutions during a technological marathon,” explains Emerson Granemann, Director of MundoGEO, the company that organizes the two events.

MundoGEOXperience is an event for prominent young people and entrepreneurs, students, developers and researchers in the fields of Engineering, Geography, Graphics Computing, Information Technology, Public Administration, Urban Planning, etc.. One of the activities to be performed is GEO Hackathon, a developing marathon of ideas with challenges proposed by the public sector. The development teams will be able to use data, softwares and infrastructure in order to develop the solutions on-site. The winners will be awarded and will have their work widely disseminated.

MundoGEOXperience-1MundoGEO is also preparing GEO Academy – to be held at the same time and location – an interactive space for scientific researches disclosure. This meeting will feature a different model from the traditional academic ones, which are usually based on fixed poster sessions and long presentations. Based on the community feedback, this new event will consist on 10 minutes presentations, called GEO Talks. These lectures will be held in an arena specially built for this purpose, in addition to the “e-Posters” – digital screens for the presentation of the results.

In addition to GEO Academy and GEO Hackathon, other activities will take place during MundoGEOXperience, such as the “Junior Enterprises and Startups Meeting”, the “Geospatial and IT Bloggers Meeting” and also the “1st Universities and Business Integration Meeting”. “MundoGEOXperience will be held simultaneously with MundoGEO#Connect Conference, integrating the industry, users, entrepreneurs and universities, and also providing a space for innovation and the discovery of new solutions. We expect to receive delegations from many universities and more than 500 participants, “concludes Granemann .

MundoGEOXperience is promoted by MundoGEO and co-organized by Emplasa. The event will be supported by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), Embrapa Satellite Monitoring, Brazillian Institute of Geomatics (IBG), Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) and also by universities and professional associations that represent surveyors, cartographers and geographers in Brazil. MundoGEOXperience is sponsored by Garmin – global manufacturer and distributor of GPS navigators.
