advertising

Leica Geosystems Geospatial Imaging has acquired all outstanding shares of Ionic Software, a geospatial software company headquartered in Liege, Belgium, as well as all the shares of the related American company Ionic Enterprise. Together, these companies are referred to as Ionic.

Ionic provides enterprise geospatial technology with the service-oriented mapping for web-based and distributed systems. Ionic’s strength in the defense, space, government and commercial enterprise sectors complements Leica Geosystems’ market presence and existing product portfolio.

Ionic’s products provide a interoperable spatial data infrastructure to securely catalog and serve geospatial information on the Internet, enabling users to publish, discover, access, integrate and apply spatial data. Driving the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) standards in the geospatial industry, Ionic’s RedSpider product line has a comprehensive, service-oriented architecture, with a highly developed open standards-based Java/J2EE platform and development framework (API).

Moving forward, the Ionic and Leica Geosystems product portfolios will be maintained and new solutions will be developed using existing technologies of both companies. Ionic has a strong foothold in both the US and Europe with a growing strategic visibility in Asia/Pacific, further strengthening Leica Geosystems’ existing global presence.

The acquisition was made for an undisclosed amount, with date of closing to be determined.
