Avnet Technology Solutions, a value-added distributor of enterprise computing products, embedded subsystems, software and services, and an operating group of Avnet, Inc., announced a North American distribution agreement with LinksPoint, a leader in Location Powered Solutions(TM). Avnet’s Mobility Solutions practice will provide LinksPoint’s GPS technology to independent software vendor (ISV), original equipment manufacturer (OEM) and value-added reseller (VAR) partners as a complementary enhancement for existing mobility systems, or fully integrated into a complete solution including wireless handheld products from Intermec and Motorola.

‘Avnet’s mobility partners are helping their customers take advantage of innovations in the mobile industry to increase their productivity and asset management,’ said Michael Douglass, vice president, Mobility Solutions, Avnet Technology Solutions, Americas. ‘By including LinksPoint’s GPS technology in their complete mobile solutions, Avnet’s partners can give their customers increased control over their mobile operations, improving field productivity and decreasing costs.’

LinksPoint’s GPS solutions are designed to support vehicle tracking, navigation and field data collection, and are used by organizations in distribution, transportation, utilities and government. Avnet’s Mobility Solutions team will work with its partners to design and develop GPS solutions based on specific customer needs. LinksPoint’s technology is very flexible, and can be included in a complete solution as a ‘snap-on’ GPS receiver, a serial GPS receiver/data logger, a Bluetooth GPS receiver/data logger or as a support for an internal GPS component. LinksPoint’s software supports a variety of location-based services. Application options include RouteTrak for vehicle location and history and Field Force Navigator for turn-by-turn driving directions and maps. LinksPoint also provides application programming interfaces to assist Avnet’s partners with custom software developments.

‘Avnet’s focus on delivering mobility solutions, along with its long-term relationships with the leaders in mobile computing technology, provide LinksPoint with an outstanding opportunity to expand our reach into the enterprise channel,’ said Strite H. Potter, president of LinksPoint. ‘GPS is in great demand for mobile applications, and Avnet will allow us to offer our products more effectively to mobile solution providers.
