The two German companies DMT GmbH and Zoller + Fröhlich GmbH are developing an explosion-proof 3D laser scanner, called IMAGER 5006EX. This laser scanner is to fulfil the requirements of the ATEX safety classes group I (mining) and group IIb (other industrial areas).

With this new laser scanner it will for the first time worldwide be possible to do save to operate 3D laser scanning in explosive areas. The performance characteristics of the new IMAGER 5006EX are supposed to be close to those of the successful IMAGER 5006 produced by Zoller + Fröhlich.

First prototypes are planned for this year. First serial units are expected to be delivered in the second half of the year 2008.
