Navteq map of Brazil selected by Elef for new touche smartphone with GPS

Navteq, a leading global provider of digital map data for vehicle navigation and location-based solutions, has been chosen by Elef, a Brazil-based mobile phone provider, to supply map data for the new Touche smartphone launching this October. Navteq map data of Brazil powers the Route 66 navigation application, Navigate 8, featured on the Touche.

Benefits of the Elef Touche are a large touch screen, Windows Mobile 6.1, WiFi internet access and a 2 megapixel camera. The Touche utilizes the high- sensitivity SiRFstarIII microcontroller chip along with the Route 66 Navigate 8 application, which is powered by the Navteq map of Brazil.

The Navteq map covers 820 cities across Brazil and contains a superb listing of Points of Interest (POIs) like pharmacies, banks and restaurants. Besides the more than 15,000 POIs available with the Navteq map of Brazil, Touche users will have access to an additional 555,000 POIs as part of the Navteq extended listings product for Brazil. Navteq maps of Europe, the United States, Canada and Asia can also be used within the navigation application.

The Navteq map of Brazil covers approximately 835,000 km of roads. Complete, comprehensive coverage is available in the following metropolitan areas, Belo Horizonte, Brasilia, Campinas, Contagem, Curitiba, Porto Alegre, Rio de Janeiro, Salvador, Sao Jose dos Campos and Sao Paulo in addition to coverage in 810 cities throughout Brazil. The Brazil map also contains a full set of features including over 15,000 POIs such as restaurants, hotels, gas stations and banks enabling users to select their destination either by address or the POI listing.
