Tagggit has officially launched their mobile application for Nokia devices, the first application to incorporate an accurate Indoors GPS system on Nokia S60 phones. Tagggit’s geo-tagging mobile application can find a phone’s position indoors, within a few seconds and accurate to fifteen feet.
Loughlin Spollen, Tagggit’s founder, described the announcement as "a major milestone in mobile social networking. Today, members can geo-blog, review a location or search for geo-tags from their phone while sitting comfortably indoors and without waiting for a traditional GPS fix."
The Tagggit mobile application has been in private beta testing for the past two months. The software was trialed by members of online mobile phone forums in various locations around the world.
Although Tagggit is the first company to release an S60 application with Indoors GPS, Loughlin says this was not their aim. He explains "we haven’t crammed the mobile application with needless features. We wanted to create a mobile application that delivered on user experience. The incorporation of Indoors GPS is very much part of this focus and it’s our primary goal. Having the first application with Indoors GPS is a big bonus."
Tagggit have termed the Indoors GPS "City Mode" as it functions in metropolitan areas. Loughlin believes the Indoors GPS is critical to Tagggit. He claims "a geo-tagging social network is at its most useful in large cities and Tagggit is currently used by members to find each other in downtown areas, to leave recommendations and surprise tags for friends. However traditional GPS is not good in built-up areas. This mobile software will help us advance the way urbanites connect while on the move. Knowledge of our surroundings impacts our daily experiences and Tagggit makes it easy for members to share their knowledge of the real world."
The Tagggit mobile application facilitates the creation of geo-tags. A geo-tag is text and/or an image tied to a physical location. These tags can be marked as private or they can be shared. Members can choose to share tags with the world, their friends or a community. Likewise members can search for geo-tags using their mobile and assign star ratings or add comments. Tagggit has an integrated mobile browser to pinpoint the user and each tag’s location on a map.
Using the Tagggit website members can make friends, create and join communities, tag locations and plan events. The Tagggit application can be downloaded from the Tagggit website.
