Abu Dhabi Announces Standards-Based Geospatial Infrastructure Tender

advertising

Last month at Map Middle East, a major trade event that was supported by the OGC, the Department of Municipal Affairs of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi announced a tender for the technology component of a planned Municipal Spatial Solutions Infrastructure that will implement OGC standards. The bidding closing date is May 31, 2009 at 12:00 noon.

Each of the three municipalities of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi uses different GIS technology and has its own processes for collecting and managing geospatial data. One of Department of Municipal Affairs’ strategic objectives is to develop mapping databases that are current, standardized and seamless across the three municipalities.

The Department of Municipal Affairs would also like to ensure that other government agencies that geo reference their data using municipal base maps have easy and electronic access to such data. The Department of Municipal Affairs wants to achieve this without unnecessarily interfering with the technologies used or the internal processes being followed by the respective municipalities. The Abu Dhabi Spatial Data Infrastructure promotes the use of Open Geospatial Consortium standards in line with the international community.
