Petrobras and National Institute for Space Research break in on September 30th, in Cachoeira Paulista’s installation (SP), two new facilities: Carbonic Dioxide Laboratory and Marine Remote Sensing Station.

The first one has as a focal point the development of new material for combustion of hydrocarbon, particularly in natural gas, making use of known process as Chemical Looping Combustion and Chemical Looping Reforming.

Related to Petrobras and Ministry of Science and Technology and Weather Change Thematic Nets, results obtained in this laboratory can be used by industry and for carbon dioxide emission reduction in the energy creation process, contributing this way, with the development of a new technology for the global heating mitigation.

Marine Sureveillance

Linked to Marine Monitoring Thematic Net, the Remote Sensing Station, will receive, process, storage and distribute ENVISAT images that will be used for monitoring the Brazilian coast.

The operation of Marine Remote Sensing station from INPE, also meets Petrobras’ demands, which up to now was totally depended on the images acquired and processed in overseas reception stations.

Coordinated by Petrobras Reasearch Center, the Thematic Nets have as a purpose the investment in universities and research institutions, like INPE, aiming the development of technological solutions for the main challenges of energy industries. Petrobrás, investment on CO2 Capture Laboratory was R$ 700,000. The Marine Remote Sensing Station has received the amount of R$ 7 million.
