SuperGeo Technologies develops Off-Campus Rental Query System by SuperWebGIS. This system, containing database and GIS technologies, helps the faculty at Lan-Yang Institute of Technology quickly query the renting information and spatial distribution of off campus accommodation, securing the students’ safety.
Numerous students studying at Lan-Yang Institute of Technology live off-campus due to insufficient dormitories on campus. There might be some dangerous factors existing in the off-campus places where students live though. Therefore, the faculty at the institute needs to know the students’ accommodation locations and conditions in a systematic way.
Building a database to completely record the renting information of off-campus accommodation is the first step for the faculty. Then, a WebGIS combining the database is established to form a query platform for the faculty to quickly display and check the information. The above data can be visualized on the maps, so the faculty can know the conditions better by GIS technologies.
Using SuperWebGIS, the Internet Map Server Software, Off-Campus Rental Query System has two main functions. First, Address Query Function allows the faculty to query the address where students rent by entering student’s details, such as the name and class. Also, the location of the student’s address will appear on the map so that the faculty can clearly understand the spatial distribution of student accommodation. It can also assist the faculty in promptly ensuring the safety of the students when an emergency occurs.
Secondly, the system also provides Delivering Emergency Warning Message Function. This function combines Short Message System with the database recording students’ accommodation renting information. When the faculty wants to announce some messages to the students, the messages can be sent to students’ mobile phones immediately. This can save a lot of money and time compared to calling every student and notifying them of the announcement. Students can also know important information conveniently to prevent potential risks.
