Providing Support for a Growing Tourism Industry

The Caribbean Islands and Central America enjoy immense popularity as tourist areas.  With these areas continuing to attract visitors worldwide, Intermediate Map sets are an important tool for customers who need a faster time-to-market in these key regions.  Allowing for basic route calculation and location analysis, Intermediate Map sets enable solution providers to meet the growing demand for trip planning and routing applications and enable businesses to utilize location information to analyze their potential.

"The launch of Intermediate Map sets in the Caribbean and Central America is an important milestone toward the achievement of NAVTEQ’s strategy to provide broad coverage in the region.  The growing tourism market and its importance to the economies of the region place product development in this area high on NAVTEQ’s priorities list.  We look forward to further map rollouts in the region," says Fernando Villasol, NAVTEQ Director for map and content, South America.

Based on third-party sourced data deemed by NAVTEQ to be the highest quality available, Intermediate Map sets do not adhere to the same specifications or required verification as the company’s flagship product, the NAVTEQ map.  In addition to the Intermediate Map sets, the region is supported by NAVTEQ maps for the Bahamas, St. Barts the Cayman Islands, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
