With the addition of data from the three Baltic states, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, AeroGRID is now able to provide off-the-shelf aerial photography from over 50 countries.
Other recent additions to the AeroGRID online image library include coverage of major cities in Brazil, Uruguay, Sudan, United Arab Emirates and the Philippines. Much of this library is being made available via WMS the standard protocol for streaming georeferenced map imagery over the Internet to web based applications, GIS and CAD software. WMS feeds only load imagery that a user actually needs to see rather than a whole dataset, which often results in lengthy load times or delays when panning and zooming.
“Our success in sourcing aerial photography is growing as we become more widely known as a pan-continental provider,” said Miles Taylor General Manager. “Our goal is to provide fast access to orthophotos from all over the world through the expansion of our growing partner network. In addition AeroGRID is beginning to include pre-rectified high resolution satellite data, which will extend its already impressive coverage still further.”
