IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics) launched on September the Geosciences Technical Manual utilized in the elaboration of the 1:250000 Continuous Cartographic Base, which can be accessed here.
The release event will take place at 10 a.m. in the auditorium of the Center for Information Documentation and Dissemination (CDDI), located at Rua General Canabarro, 706, Maracanã, Rio de Janeiro.
The Continuous Cartographic Base (BC250) is a digital mosaic of Brazil at 1:250000 scale (1 cm on the map equivalent to 2.5 km on the land), available here in shape format (which allows for the use in geoprocessing programs).
It covers 89% of the national territory and it is due to be concluded in the first semester of next year. That base is a cartographic reference for planning, monitoring and updating information about the national natural resources.
Produced by the Coordination of Cartography of the Directorate of Geosciences of IBGE, the Manual of Technical Procedures for the Supervision and Control of the Quality and Validity of the Cartographic Base at 1:250000 scale is the number 12 of the Geosciences Manual series.
It is a guideline for the supervision of mapping services, as it standardizes procedures, such as the preparation of images and designs of maps, assuring the quality of the material produced.
