Eternix, a GIS visualisation software company, has announced the addition of a new 30-meter global digital-terrain web layer to Blaze Terra’s collection of instantly accessible web layers, available as of version 4.1 of the software. The new web layer, derived from NASA’s Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM), depicts nearly the entire surface of the earth in 3D with 30-meter posting and comes to improve SRTM’s previous terrain data with merely 90-meter posting.
The combination of high quality earth-encompassing DEM and Blaze Terra’s advanced 3D capabilities enables Blaze Terra users to perform precise terrain analysis at indiscriminate locations. Blaze Terra’s 3D algorithms and sophisticated GPU utilisation allow users to further drape any complementary data, such as raster, vector, shape, video, WAMI or point cloud files on top of the terrain web layer, thus creating a rich and multifaceted 3D environment at the click of a button.
Given the layer’s weight of few hundred gigabytes, the comfort and speed characterising Blaze Terra’s overall approach to managing large datasets constitutes a key advantage. Instant cloud access and immediate presentation of the data saves the user time and effort otherwise linked to opening large files remotely.
