EHang, a Chinese Autonomous Aerial Vehicle company, announced that it will contribute to the use of the EGNOS (European Geostationary Navigation Overlay Service) system in operations with eVTOLs over European territory.

The project Adoption in Multicopter VTOL Aircraft (SAMVA) is an initiative of the European Union to implement Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) operations and to enhance U-Space airspace integration. In addition to EHang, other companies are involved, such as Thales-Alenia Space, Eliance, Pildo Labs, Aeroports de Catalunya, among others.

In this regard, EHang will establish with Aeroports de Catalunya an operational base at Lleida-Alguaire airport, 150 kilometers from Barcelona, Spain, to conduct flight tests with the EH216 prototype. The objective is to use EGNOS to verify how the system can help and optimize flights with eVTOLs on the continent.

“The SAMVA project will unleash EGNOS capabilities aboard EHang’s EH216 AAV to provide precise and integer navigation guidance and support U-Space airspace integration. Our participation in this project reflects the meaningful progress we’ve made overseas with our strong industry-leading technologies as our global footprint expands. With that, EHang will continue to move further forward in the innovative development of safe and sustainable Advanced Air Mobility with global partners and create a better life for all.”

Victoria Jing Xiang, Chief Operating Officer of EHang Europe and Latin America.
