Happy New Year?!

Por Eduardo Freitas | 13h54, 07 de Março de 2012

Every year I joke about this, but it seems that the year only begins after Carnival, in Brazil. Here in Curitiba, even a New Year’s Eve off-season party happened last Saturday (March 3) to celebrate the “The official beginning of the year”.

Here in MundoGEO, we are working at full steam since the beginning of the year, we already launched the new MundoGEO magazine, printed and in digital form, we already have the Spanish version almost ready, the full program of MundoGEO#Connect LatinAmerica is almost finished, but it seems that some things “got started” only at the end of February and Carnival.

feliz ano novo Happy New Year?!The webinars, for example, only began with the last week event about the change detection with Erdas Imagine and RapidEye images, which was a successful registration number and participation. Now companies are already scheduling their webinars for 2012.

MundoGEO#Connect LatinAmerica expo will take place in May 29 thru 31 in Sao Paulo, was also kind of “slow” but things have changed and the demand for stands is “thriving”. Companies from Brazil, USA and even China, that were new to us, now have already contacted us or booked their spaces.

Job opportunities

The number of vacancies also increased last week. Before Carnival, MundoGEO published in the database of opportunities, a job offer every two days. Last week, there were nearly two jobs per day.

Anyway, I wanted to wish everyone a Happy New Year!

Fire in Antarctic

Por Eduardo Freitas | 13h39, 06 de Março de 2012

The fire in the Brazilian base in Antarctica, besides being an emotional situation due to casualties and wounded people, it will delay the research in the region. Until a new base is built and the work resumed, there will be several years of wait.

The accident at the Comandante Ferraz Antarctic Station, occurred last Saturday (Feb 25), exposed the fragility and improvisation of the facilities where the Brazilian scientists worked – there were 60 people on the base when the fire started.

incendio base brasileira antartica Fire in AntarcticThe base began to operate in February 1984, it was brought to Antarctica in sections through the Baron Teffé oceanographic ship.

The research programs that were conducted on the base allowed to investigate the impact of global environmental changes in Antarctica and its consequences for the Americas including the Amazon.

On behalf of MundoGEO, our hearts go to the families of the people who were killed and injured in the accident.
