DigitalGlobe, a leading global provider of high-resolution earth imagery solutions, announced that it has signed a new agreement with Mexico’s largest enterprise, PEMEX. The agreement gives PEMEX, a customer of DigitalGlobe’s for the last four years and one of the world’s top oil producers, real-time, cloud-based access to DigitalGlobe’s new Global Basemap, launched today. Global Basemap is being demonstrated in DigitalGlobe’s booth #1901 at this week’s Esri International User Conference in San Diego.

PEMEX is Mexico’s sole producer of crude oil, natural gas and refined products and represents one of the country’s most important sources of government income. It is also one of the few oil companies in the world to manage all facets of production, from exploration and extraction to refining, storage, distribution and sales. Margarita Jordá Lozano, Geospatial Information System Manager at PEMEX, said such complex operations require advanced data to support critical business decisions.

“PEMEX operates nearly 60,000 kilometers of pipeline, seven refineries, 77 storage facilities and 15 gas processing plants throughout Mexico. Satellite imagery has become a vital source of information to help us quickly and accurately assess what is truly happening across all of these locations. Now, on demand access to constantly refreshed imagery will give us a ground truth basis on which to make our most integral business decisions.”

Global Basemap easily integrates with PEMEX’s mapping systems so that managers can:

– Plan exploration strategies and lay seismic lines;
– Manage logistics to track and develop roads around facilities, and plan the movement of exploration and drilling equipment;
– Oversee production, including development and security at gas and liquefied gas terminals and refineries;
– Manage pipeline development, including the creation of topographic maps;
– Ensure the safe production, transportation and distribution of hydrocarbons;
– Conduct emergency care and response planning for employees and local communities.

DigitalGlobe’s Senior Vice President of Commercial Sales Rafay Khan said that PEMEX’s interest in an online solution represents a growing trend within DigitalGlobe’s customer base. “Our customers increasingly rely on satellite imagery to drive business decisions, but don’t want the expense of a large data center to limit access to critical information. With the reliability and cost effectiveness of our solution, they can get the accurate, up-to-date imagery they need without the operational headaches.”

Based on the company’s comprehensive and constantly refreshed ImageLibrary, and powered by its Cloud Services platform, Global Basemap gives customers fast and easy online access to existing and newly collected imagery so that they have the visual information needed to make critical decisions. Global Basemap includes imagery sourced from DigitalGlobe’s own high-resolution satellite constellation and aerial network as well as additional third party low-resolution sources.

Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
