On November 14, the European Commission, owner of the Galileo Information Centre (GIC) in Brazil, and the members of the Consortium formed by European and Brazilian organisations in charge of the 36-month project financed by the European Union to create and maintain the Center, held the kick-off meeting of the project.

The main goal of the new Centre, financed by the European Commission, is to reinforce the position of the European Union, not only as a GNSS signal provider, but as a key partner for stakeholders in Brazil. Moreover, the Centre will also build up instruments to develop relevant initiatives to promote European GNSS in Brazil, providing a privileged entry point for the European GNSS industry in Brazil.

The specific objectives of the project are: to understand and monitor the local ecosystem of stakeholders, markets and initiatives related to GNSS; to enhance local awareness and understanding of European GNSS; to foster an adequate level of local knowledge and specialisation on European GNSS; to facilitate local development of GNSS applications; and to facilitate alliances between EU and local counterparts, both in industry and academia.
