On October 21st 2003, CBERS-2 (China-Brazil Earth Resources Satellite) was launched in Taiwan, China.

The Chinese-Brazilian satellite is celebrating its second anniversary, offering high quality images used from agriculture to environmental monitoring.

"Partnership with China is very positive in many aspects. As both countries are huge and have continental dimensions it becomes really important to monitor their territory", says Janio Kono, CEBERS project co-ordinator.

As a part of the celebrations, INPE has organized "CEBERS Week", with CEBERS’ images exhibition, lectures about the use of the satellite images in many different areas and by private companies.

INPE is in charge, since 1988, of the Brazilian part of the programme, which is expected to develop three more satellites until 2010.
