American satellite Landsat has captured the dry that has been beating rivers and lakes at the Amazon region lately. The images, processed by INPE (Brazil’s National Institute of Spatial Research), reveal that the rivers’ bed are decreasing day after day.

The images have approximately 250 metres of resolution and show alterations at rivers Solimões and Negro, around the city of Manaus, capital of Amazonas state.

INPE researchers have noticed a great difference at the landscape when comparing two images: one from August 30th and another from October 1st. "The difference between those two scenes shows the strength and how quickly the ebb tide has installed at the region", says specialist Paulo Martini.
