New ArcCatalog and ArcMap functions in ArcGIS 9.2 that can be used to replicate geospatial data across the enterprise will be demonstrated during a free ESRI live training seminar on the Internet in November.

Introduction to Geodatabase Replication at ArcGIS 9.2 will appear on the Training and Education Web site at www.esri.com/training on November 2, 2006, at 9:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., and 3:00 p.m. Pacific standard time.

ESRI’s ArcGIS 9.2 software, set for release later this year, uses a utility called geodatabase replication to help users copy data and manage the replicas for distribution within their organizations. New functions in ArcMap and ArcCatalog will give them the ability to create and manage replica copies of the geodatabase in whole or in part, while maintaining the geodatabase objects’ spatial characteristics. With geodatabase replication, geometric networks, topologies, and relationship classes can all be duplicated.

Data changes can be coordinated through a synchronization process, allowing users to extend the functionality of their enterprise geodatabase. The model’s design allows for synchronizing replicas in both connected and disconnected environments. The replica versions can be periodically refreshed from the master geodatabase.

The presenter will discuss:

• Checkout/Check-in replication
• One-way and two-way replication
• Preparing the data for replication
• Replica synchronization
• Connected and disconnected environments
• Message exchange
• Replica reconcile policies
• Schema changes

This seminar was designed for users seeking advanced solutions to geodatabase interoperability, while avoiding the obstacles and limitations that come with using traditional database management system (DBMS) replication tools. Students should be familiar with the enterprise geodatabase versioning environment and ArcSDE technology.

A broadband Internet connection and an ESRI global account are needed to watch the seminar. Creating a global account is easy and free. It only takes a few minutes to set up.

After the live presentation, the seminar will be archived and available to see anytime on the ESRI Training and Education Web site.
