Morocco is to participate in the EU’s satellite navigation programme Galileo following the signature of a cooperation agreement by both parties.
The agreement covers cooperation in scientific research, training, production, trade, market development, standards, certification and regulatory measures, and concludes negotiations that have been ongoing since April 2005.
‘We are really pleased to count Morocco as a partner in satellite navigation,’ said EU Transport Commissioner Jacques Barrot. ‘The country has the potential to exploit Galileo’s technology, and we plan to jointly develop activities for applications which will not only benefit citizens but also increase safety and efficiency in many sectors.’
Galileo is set to offer a new generation of services in areas such as transport, telecommunications, agriculture and fisheries.
