Topcon Positioning System (TPS) has added a new extension compatible with ESRI’s ArcPad – Field Tools for ArcPad®.

End-users with ESRI’s ArcPad software can now take full advantage of their Topcon GMS-2 hand-held receiver. With this new extension, operators can use the GMS-2 internal camera and compass and have all the convenient GPS configurations in addition to existing ArcPad functions. Any customization that a user has created in an existing copy of ArcPad can now be used on the Topcon GMS-2.

The following functionalities for ArcPad 7.0.1 include:

— Seamless integration with ESRI ArcPad software, Version 7.0.1;
— Communication with the GMS-2, the Map-RT (Topcon’s GMS-110), among other instruments;
— High accuracy GIS and mapping solutions using various real-time, post processing and RTK and Network survey techniques;
— Enables PP survey, allowing logging of raw data for post-processing;
— Display of OmniSTAR/Beacon correction status;
— Supports the Topcon BR-1 receivers for real time DGPS solutions;
— Displays various GPS and GLONASS satellite information, including PDOP, HDOP, VDOP, Pos Type, SNR graphs and sky plots among others.

Barbara McInerney, Topcon GIS product manager said, “This new extension provides a convenient way for existing ArcPad users to incorporate a GMS-2 and other Topcon solutions into their existing workflows. Users get increased field functionality and GIS database accuracy while eliminating the requirement to learn and implement new field software. Field Tools for ArcPad provides a very simple transition to using Topcon products in the field."

The new software has GMS-2 camera support, providing for .jpg and .bmp format images; adjustment of various camera parameters (brightness, size, sharpness), and provides for multiple images for shapefile formats. The compass support includes storage of data (azimuth and tilts) with the camera images as attributes to features, as well as compass calibration and automatic map rotation based on compass azimuth values.
