The Cincinnati Area Geographic Information System (CAGIS) consortium has selected Web-based Accela Automation from Accela, Inc. as its new workflow management solution. CAGIS provides Cincinnati and Hamilton County government agencies and utilities with access to real-time data for decision support in managing mission-critical business operations such as permitting, code enforcement, and licensing.

More than 800 users in 40 departments will transition to the Web-based system. Front-counter staff, plan examiners, planning, engineering, accounting, dispatch, and field crews utilize CAGIS technology, which has become the means for integrating work orders, billing systems, and customer service.

The CAGIS system integrates geographic information system (GIS) technology with automated business-process workflow software. Accela’s ‘PERMITS’ Plus® application has served as a cornerstone of the system since 1996. The upgrade to Web-based Accela Automation lays the foundation for the development of unique usability enhancements through state-of-the-art technologies and standards like service-oriented architecture (SOA), Web services, and application programming interfaces (APIs).

"CAGIS’s goals have evolved over the years, and it has become a valuable enabling technology for our jurisdictions," said Barbara Quinn, CAGIS administrator. "Moving to Accela Automation will enable us to take cross-enterprise sharing of services countywide."

Accela President and CEO Maury Blackman characterizes the CAGIS upgrade as an endorsement of the benefits of Web-based technology. "After partnering on CAGIS for many years, we see the move to Accela Automation as a natural evolution to the enhanced functionality systems like it must have to move forward and keep pace with varying expectations and objectives."
