On March 27th-28th, 2008, The Galileo Information Centre for Latin America (GIC) hosted by the Argentina Chamber of Commerce in Buenos Aires, successful organized the first Galileo Networking Meeting for Industry.
The Meeting was held in the frame of the GIC activities supporting since 2005 the R&D International Activities supervised by the European GNSS Supervisory Authority (GSA).
Since the end of 2005, the ambitious European Satellite Navigation Programmes are on track again. The last European council took the necessary decisions to impulse them closer to our reality. International Cooperation Activities are regarded as key enabler to worldwide benefit from Galileo & EGNOS. The challenge for the years to come is to support the local industry to identify regional needs and create a solid base to support local industry in the development of their own share of application market.
In this context, the Galileo Networking Meeting for Industry, aimed to foster the International Cooperation and to stimulate at long-term Cooperation perspectives on European GNSS Programme. The event supervised by GSA and represented by Dr. Daniel Ludwig, was attended by more than 60 participants from private sectors, research organizations, governmental and public institutions.
During the first day, the last update on Galileo and EGNOS Programmes and corresponding upcoming steps were presented by GSA. Then the different national GNSS initiatives and perspectives were presented at distinct governmental levels including the Secretary of Industry, National Agency of Scientific and Technology Promotion (ANPCyT), Applied Research Governmental Organization (INVAP), National Industrial Technology Institute (INTI) and La Plata University.
The main outcomes from the running International Activities in the region were also presented: The LATINO Activity and its Galileo Information Centre, The CELESTE Activity supporting the regional GNSS plan and the introduction of the Galileo Services and the fLAre infrastructure implementation for demonstrations on augmentation system. The Second day was dedicated to Round Tables for Industry on GNSS Specific applications. Discussions and debates were open on LBS, Environmental, Transport and Profesional Receivers issues lead by the main important national actors: Telespazio Argentina, Tesacom, Localizar-T, GeoSystems, American Tracer.
