Magellan announced a new PC software called Real Time Data Server (RTDS) that offers land surveying companies the opportunity of using GNSS equipment to build their own direct IP RTK corrections server.

The RTDS software will collect corrections sent by a GNSS base station and act as a gateway to make correction data available to any rover that connects to the software. RTDS allows GPRS communication between one base and multiple rovers. The base can be a permanent base (with a direct/local connection to the RTDS) or a roaming base (connected to RTDS through GPRS).

Magellan RTDS enables land surveyors to have an efficient alternative to RTK networks (public or private) and also solves radio propagation issues, providing a GPRS cellular network is available.

RTDS extends the productivity of your GNSS equipment as it enables the connection of several rovers to one single base station and can control several base stations at the same time (multi-instances). RTDS brings users additional flexibility, with it’s ability to support surveying crews in the field.

When used with Magellan ProMark 500 receivers, RTDS provides a fully integrated solution for RTK surveying (no need for external radios thanks to the built-in GSM module).

Using a GPRS communication link instead of radios enables users to increase baselines and remove radio propagation issues in difficult environments. The RTDS solution is applicable to any GNSS RTK system.

With RTDS, Magellan is creating a new way of building direct IP servers that leverage the features of the ProMark 500 receiver (built-in GPRS) while providing a solution to all users for eliminating UHF radio propagation issues in difficult environments (buildings, hills, etc.)
