Trimble announced today the release of new Trimble SSF and DDF data format extensions for FME, the leading spatial ETL (extract, transform, and load) solution from Safe Software. These extensions enable mapping and GIS professionals to easily move Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) field data collected on Trimble handhelds and processed through the Trimble GPS Pathfinder Office software to more than 225 widely used formats supported by the FME software platform, including raster data, spatial databases, and legacy Computer Aided Design (CAD). This new capability gives Trimble users access to the most up-to-date GIS formats and increases the interoperability of Trimble mapping and GIS solutions.
The new data format extensions provide an interface for Trimble Standard Storage Format (SSF) and Data Dictionary File (DDF) format files, which describe coordinate geometry and data dictionary information from Trimble TerraSync field software and GPS Pathfinder Office software. By releasing these extensions, Trimble has recognized the opportunity for users of Trimble solutions to streamline their field data collection workflow by providing SSF/DDF data access to all of the formats that FME supports.
“The significance of these interoperability extensions cannot be underestimated,” said Robert Laudati, marketing director for Trimble’s Mapping & GIS Division. “Developing a seamless workflow from the field to the office is an important initiative for many of our customers and Trimble’s new FME extensions can simplify the integration of data collected in the field with the geospatial repository. By providing a more efficient mechanism to deliver data from the field, organizations using the new FME extensions can improve the productivity of their field operations.”
“Safe Software is dedicated to helping organizations access their spatial data, no matter where it resides,” said Dale Lutz, vice president of Development at Safe Software. “We are excited that Trimble has chosen to leverage the power of FME as part of their interoperability solution for moving field data throughout the enterprise.”
The Trimble SSF and DDF data format extensions for FME are available now from authorized Trimble Mapping & GIS resellers.
