Keelung City Government authorized SuperGeo Technologies to develop a WebGIS platform for effective online query of useful cycling information. The project utilizes SuperWebGIS, the Internet Map Server Software developed by SuperGeo.

Recently, cycling becomes a worldwide popular activity and many cities start to promote the green transportation. Keelung City, for instance, constructs numerous bikeways and connects those with different bikeways in other cities to form a cycling network in northern Taiwan.

To manage the complex bikeways in an efficient way, Keelung City Government plans to build a management system based on WebGIS technology. Therefore, SuperWebGIS, the Internet Map Server developed by SuperGeo Technologies, is selected for Bikeway Information Management System.

Bikeway Information Management System centrally stores a huge amount of spatial data of bikeways to greatly improve the management efficiency and allows users to easily query cycling information online by using road name, district and SQL query. Besides, with the visualized data structured by GIS, users can clearly understand the geographic location and information of each bikeway while querying on the electronic maps.

For layer management, the system allows the administrative unit to adjust the map display by closing or opening layers. In addition, the system provides various navigation tools, such as Zoom in/out, Pan, Selection, Zoom to active layer, etc. A scale bar is also offered for users to quickly zoom into the queried area for easier manipulation.

In conclusion, the System not only assists the administrative unit in effectively managing bikeways in Keelung City by WebGIS technology, but also provides useful information for planning other bikeways in the future. As to the public, well-managed bikeways can increase their willingness to ride bikes and tourists can have different experiences and ways to explore the beauty of Keelung by cycling. As a result, carbon reduction and energy conservation can be achieved by using green vehicles instead of a great number of cars and motorcycles.
