Telogis, Inc., the platform for location intelligence, launches its GeoBase Silverlight API, a sophisticated mapping API (Application Programming Interface) built on Microsoft Silverlight technology. The new API enables developers to create rich mapping and routing applications for the Web using Microsoft Silverlight and the existing GeoStream web server that ships with the Telogis GeoBase map engine.

The Silverlight API leverages the power and performance of Telogis GeoBase for the geospatial operations and Silverlight for the user interface design. The GeoBase engine enables programmers to quickly incorporate high performance forward and reverse geocoding, custom geofencing, advanced routing operations and turn-by-turn instructions with visualization. The Silverlight API offers ultra-smooth pan and zoom functions and enables the overlay and display of custom objects and layers such as imagery, traffic, custom GIS data, and points of interest information.

“The Silverlight API combines the best of both worlds for developers – Telogis GeoBase’s advanced mapping capabilities and Silverlight’s sophisticated user interface controls,” said Newth Morris, president of Telogis GeoBase. “The combined offering accomplishes our goal of providing the tools that the enterprise needs with the experience that users have come to expect.”

“We chose Telogis GeoBase as our .NET map control because of its rich feature set and favorable licensing model,” said Patrick Dewis, Manager of Fixed End Development, Mentor Engineering, Inc. “When we heard that Telogis also developed a Silverlight control, it seemed like a natural fit. Using a control created by the same company allowed us to greatly reduce the learning curve for our developers, and in some cases even reuse code.”

Developers can download a free 30-day trial of the Telogis Silverlight API at the Telogis Developer Portal. The following technical requirements are needed in order to use Telogis Silverlight:

    * Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 SP1, with the Visual Web Developer feature
    * Microsoft Silverlight 3 Tools for Visual Studio SP1
    * Telogis GeoBase server (version 3.0 or higher) on the local machine, or a remote server
