Sustainable Database of Transportation Network Digital Atlas by SuperGIS

Using SuperGIS Desktop and SuperGIS Image Server, SuperGeo Technologies develop a platform for sustainable digital map database of transportation networks. Users can edit the transportation network files effectively and alsos expand the attribute data to provide correct and usable road network digital atlas rapidly.

To enhance the use of Transportation Road Network Digital Atlas, the Institute of Transportation (IOT), Ministry of Transportation and Communications in Taiwan, published the "New Century Taiwan National Transportation Road Network Digital Atlas 1.0." The Atlas contains road nodes, landmarks, railways, administration area boundaries, rivers, bridges and tunnels, etc.

For sustainable operation, IOT plans to update the Atlas as the foundation to modify the transportation road network map according to the change of roads and the comparison of all kinds of reliable map sources, such as address location data, terrain maps, satellite images, etc. Besides, the highly-demanded attribute data was expanded so that the Atlas meets the present state and needs.

The project aims to establish a powerful sharing platform to store, manage and publish huge image data efficiently. The sharing platform can not only reduce the resource waste of the image storage space, but also assist the staff who maintains the files in quickly searching and accessing the required aerial photography.

SuperGIS Image Server, the enterprise server software for managing, processing and publishing image, is used as the sharing platform for managing and publishing huge imagery data all over Taiwan. The file size of aerial photography can be decreased from 2TB to 300GB rapidly. Therefore, users can access huge data quickly and the data in server end can also be re-used. The value of the images can be maximized and the purchasing cost can be reduced significantly.

SuperGIS Desktop is the front-end platform to edit files. The staff who maintains the files can quickly access the images stored in the server end through SuperGIS Desktop and then refers the images to edit the transportation road network digital map. Next, they can edit the transportation road network digital maps with the powerful editing capability in SuperGIS Desktop.
