SuperGeo Technologies has established ‘e-Bus Information System’ for Kinmen County. By the system, users are able to query real-time bus information and plan the best tourist routes combining the local cultures in a convenient way. The tourism industry in Kinmen would be vigorously developed at the same time.
With a long history and special geographic location between China and Taiwan, the development of sight-seeing industry has been the key policy for Kinmen government. With the establishment of national park and the Mini-Three Links (with China), more and more tourists are attracted to visit Kinmen.
To develop a suitable public transportation system combining the local features, such as the cultural skills, local characters, and natural village scenery, Kinmen County Government aims to develop a convenient e-Bus information platform. If the public transportation is well planned with rich travel information, the tourism income would be increased greatly.
For the reason, Bus and Ferry Management Office of Kinmen County is scheduled to create a website integrating with tourism and dynamic bus information to provide the public with a convenient and easy-to-use transportation system.
Web-GIS technology is adopted as the architecture of the project, to effectively enhance the query of sight-seeing information and to strengthen the bus transfer service system, so the public can better plan the bus-taking before traveling.
Therefore, SuperGeo utilized SuperWebGIS as the map server platform to publish route data, scenic spot data, and electronic maps of Kinmen via the Internet. The client end can query the bus routes and the scenic spots through general browsers without extra plug-ins. Basic GIS tools are provided in the system, too.
Kinmen e-Bus Information System can be divided into two major functions: ‘e-Bus Information Query’ and ‘Tourism Guide and Transfer Service.’ The System not only completely integrates Kinmen bus information and scenic spot data, but also provides diverse and real-time information. The tourism industry can also be boosted by mans of GIS technologies.
