Blue Marble Geographics is pleased to announce a functional enhancement within the Geographic Calculator v7.5, the addition of an enhanced area calculation tool. Whether it is coordinate, vector, or raster data types, the Blue Marble Desktop allows you to address your data conversion challenges in the same application interface with powerful conversion and transformation tools. Blue Marble’s geospatial data manipulation and conversion solutions are used worldwide by thousands of GIS analysts at software companies, universities, oil and gas companies, civil engineering, surveying, technology, enterprise GIS groups, government and military organizations.

Blue Marble Desktop 2.2 now features a highly precise area calculation tool that allows users to calculate area based on user defined boundary definitions. By entering points to describe a polygon, the user can control the methods used for defining each segment between the points and calculate the area on a geodetic or grid model. Boundary paths for complex areas can be defined to a higher level of precision than many other calculation tools offer, in particular for areas along international waters or boundaries. Within the Area Calculation Tool, which opens in a new interface, there are four windows, which can be opened, closed, resized, and docked or undocked. The polygons that are created can be saved as a vector file in one of the many file formats supported by the Blue Marble Desktop. Bridging the gap between highly accurate survey data and user-friendly GIS data, the Blue Marble Desktop easily translates survey and CAD data into GIS data, grid to geographic. The area calculation tool is just one of the many features within the Desktop that make sure your geospatial data is accurate and reliable.

“The area calculation tool is a functional enhancement that was driven by customer request,” states Blue Marble President Patrick Cunningham.  “We know that Oil and Gas exploration has particular coordinate transformation challenges and we are always happy to address those challenges through powerful software tools in a user friendly interface.  If you are a geo-scientist and you would like to see Blue Marble automate some of your geodetic work or review some key in-house tool you’ve developed, we’re always open to our your ideas.  If it makes sense, we’re happy to add it to the Blue Marble Desktop.”
