Having global reach, its platform has the objective of gathering people involved in geospatial information
GeoConnectPeople has just been launched, a social net open to all users and producers of geoinformation who want to meet friends and create groups to exchange experiences, clear doubts and to debate relevant themes.
The contents posted on GeoConnectPeople are linked to the geoprocessing technologies, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), cartography, land surveying, photogrammetry, Earth observation, geodesy, Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS), Location-based Services (LBS), Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) and its several relationships and applications.
GeoConnectPeople net is ruled by the debate of ideas and the collaborative creation of contents that have the objective of making the geospatial market grow in a sustainable way. The option for the English language aims the discussion to be global, even when local subjects are approached.
This is a social non-profitable project, created and maintained by MundoGEO. GeoConnectPeople platform joins MundoGEO’s mission in what concerns to connecting the global community of geospatial information.
According to Emerson Zanon Granemann, director and publisher of MundoGEO, GeoConnectPeople net has the aim of connecting professionals from all over the world to make them contact one another in order to develop projects, to create partnerships and to look for innovative solutions. “We hope to count on the support of magazines, portals and institutions which are connected to the geoinformation sector so that we can make the net grow more and more because it will generate content that can be shared by everybodyl”, concludes Emerson.
Eduardo Freitas, mediator of GeoConnectPeople, states that the platform was conceived for the English language, but the themes can be posted in any language. “The community is free to adopt the best ways for the collaborative construction of this net”. The creation of groups is also open so that people can choose the themes that interest them the most. “The members can open their own groups and topics to debate technical subjects, market trends, legislation, and geospatial data patterns. Finally: GeoConnectPeople is an open net that is being built by the community itself”, concludes Eduardo.
GeoConnectPeople is totally integrated with other more generic nets such as Twitter, Facebook and Google+. To post pictures, members may use their own accounts in Flickr. Besides that, there is also the option of registering in the net using an account from Gmail, Yahoo, Twitter or Facebook. The content posted in GeoconnectPeople is also easily shared in MySpace, del.icio.us, StumbleUpon and Digg.
