The new platform for content sharing is open to all users and parties interested in geotechnologies
The new social net GeoConnectPeople, launched at the beginning of this week, has already reached over 600 members in only two days and continues growing quickly. Being an unpublished initiative all over the world, the net is addressed to all users and parties interested in technologies and geo-technologies applications and to those who want to share experiences, contacts and information.
In spite of being a project from a Brazilian company, GeoConnectPeople has already demonstrated its global reach, with members from Latin America, Portugal, Spain, the United States, France, Russia, Korea, Angola, Sudan, among other countries. The option for the menus in English was made for the net to be a global platform of geo-information sharing. However, the participants are free to choose the language in which they want to post their contents.
“We have been working on the launching of this new platform for months, but the great adhesion of the community to the project has been surprising”, comments Eduardo Freitas, creator and mediator of GeoConnectPeople. “As the system is very simple and intuitive, the members enter the net and immediately start posting pictures, videos, topics in the forum, besides creating groups of interest”, commemorates Eduardo.
Among the themes that are being debated by the community on GeoConnectPeople are geo-processing, digital maps, satellites images, GPS, among others. The community itself has already created groups on specific subjects, such as geography, geo blogs, free software, Google Maps, environmental modeling, etc.. The complete list of groups can be found here.
GeoConnectPeople is totally integrated with other social nets such as Twitter, Facebook and Google+. To post pictures, the members can use their own accounts in Flickr. Besides this, there is also the option of joining the net using an account from Gmail, Yahoo, Twitter or Facebook. The content posted in GeoconnectPeople is also easily shared on MySpace, del.icio.us, StumbleUpon and Digg.
