A two year Post-Doctoral position is available to carry out research with the INPE´s Geosciences Radar Group in São José dos Campos (SP) (FAPESP-Vale Project). The research is part of an investigation that focuses on the usage of Differential Interferometry with TerraSAR-X data for surface deformation detection and monitoring in the N4 iron open pit mine in Carajás Mineral Province, Pará state.
The candidate must have a Ph. D. degree on Cartography, with experience on general processing and statistical data analysis of Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) data for environmental applications, particularly in the Brazilian Amazon Region.
The work will consist on (1) the development of qualification on interferometric processing of TSX-1 data based on Gamma Remote Sensing software, with emphasis on the Permanent Scatterer Interferometry (PSI) approach, (2) the conversion of spatially distinct measurements of ground displacements provided by classic surveying and geotechnical methods (levels, prisms, total stations, etc.) and orbital TSX-1 interferometry, and (3) the support for the statistical validation tasks of both source of ground displacement measurements.
Since the research will focus on the N4 iron mine (Pará state), a previous experience in field campaigns in the Amazon region is a relevant requirement for the applicant selection. The current scholarship is R$ 5.333,40 free of taxes, plus an additional research contingency fund equivalent to 15 per cent of the annual value of the scholarship.
Applicants should send a letter explaining the candidate´s motivation/interest, curriculum vitae and two letters of recommendations, all documents in PDF format, to Dr. Waldir Renato Paradella (waldir@ltid.inpe.br) until November 30, 2011.
