MundoGEO, leader on events and publishing magazines and web portals to the geospatial industry in Latin America and gvSIG Association, which is the entity responsible for maintaining the gvSIG Project – a free software in the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) sector – promoted an online seminar on open source solutions for GIS and Spatial Data Infrastructures (SDI), last Tuesday (June 26). The event was presented in Spanish, with 648 online participants.

According to Alvaro Anguix, general manager of the gvSIG Association and speaker in the online seminar, the amount of questions concerning technical aspects of the organization and participation in the community – is a reflection of the public interest, which shows that this webinar had an outstanding response. “This webinar focused on the technology and the origins of the project, it dealt with issues such as organization and sustainability of the new production model, as well as job growth in the community, which is carrying out as a fundamental basis for the gvSIG”, adds Alvaro.

During the online seminar, were analyzed different standards of Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC), supported by gvSIG, and that makes it one of the most advanced and comprehensive software for WMS, WFS and WCS.

“The online seminars in Spanish were an old project of MundoGEO, which was made possible through a successful partnership with the gvSIG Association,” says Eduardo Freitas, organizer and mediator of MundoGEO webinars. “We are chasing up other institutions in geospatial industry that are interested in holding webinars for the Spanish speaking community, either from Latin America, Spain and other parts of the world”, he concludes.

Since 2009, MundoGEO has conducted more than 60 webinars, with an average of 1,200 entries and 600 participants per event. Last Tuesday event was the second webinar in Spanish.
