3D urban models optimise tasks and make new applications possible_Intergeo 2012The latest 3D technology will be presented at Intergeo in Hanover between 9 and 11 October. The bonus for users – processes are getting faster and models cheaper.

“Our latest technology enables automated processes in 3-D urban modelling with just one overflight.” “Models are becoming faster and more cost-effective – and therefore affordable for a wider audience”, says Christian Lotter, in charge of marketing and sales at 3D Reality Maps GmbH. With branches in Baierbrunn near Munich and Potsdam, these experts achieve impressive levels of quality beyond just automated processes. The incorporation of characteristic details of the buildings and street features enables navigation from a pedestrian’s perspective.

GTA Geoinformatik GmbH is among the leading developers and manufacturers in the field of 3D geodata worldwide. The Neubrandenburg-based company is presenting a new 3D software solution at Intergeo. The tridicon PointCloudGenerator is a tool which creates precise point clouds for 3D analysis as well as textured digital surface models (DOM) from image data. The tridicon BuildingFinder uses these high-quality DOMs for object recognition and 3D reconstruction.

“The automatic production of building floor plans and 3D buildings in level of detail 2 (LOD 2) will revolutionise data capture in regions where land registry data is not yet available”, promise the GTA experts. Street Factory, from Astrium Services – GEO-Information, also offers a 3D mapping solution of the latest generation. Whether the images come from aircraft or street-mounted cameras, 3D models are created fully automatically within hours of the data being collected.

3D urban models are helpful for location analysis, real estate marketing, economic development and urban marketing projects. Beyond urban planning, there are also applications in areas such as risk management, defence, telecommunications and surveying.Image material and other information can be found at www.intergeo.de. German Society for Geodesy, Geoinformation und Land Management is the host of the 18th Intergeo. , which will be held in Hanover from October 9th  to 11th, 2012.
