MundoGEO#Connect 2013 was held in June and hosted two events that featured applications of geographic intelligence
The 3rd edition of MundoGEO#Connect LatinAmerica, Conference and Trade Fair of Geomatics and Geospatial Solutions, was held in Sao Paulo in June, and demonstrated the strength of the geospatial market in Brazil and Latin America. In total 3,540 participants from over 25 countries attended the 20 activities of the event, besides 150 speakers and 65 exhibitors at a trade fair with 4,600 square meters. In 2013 MundoGEO#Connect was supported by global strategic brands such as Hexagon, Trimble, ESRI, Digital Globe, Google, RapidEye, Pitney Bowes, among others.
In 2013, MundoGEO#Connect Conference featured two major events: Geointelligence for Defence and Security Forum and Location Intelligence Brazil, an international conference offered due to partnership between MundoGEO and Directions Magazine, international portal on geospatial solutions that performs Location Intelligence Conference in the United States annually. “It was a great opportunity to offer an educational forum, which addressed the applications of location technology in enterprise computing and business intelligence,” said Joe Francica, chief-editor of Directions Magazine. With simultaneous translation in English and Spanish, LI Brazil was sponsored by HERE – a Nokia business unit, Geofusion, MapLink and GeoConexion.

It’s innovative and offers not only the the traditional search for destinations and routes, but also routes for pedestrians through parks and squares and the public transportation, with buses, trains and subways, “stated Helder Azevedo, Director of Sales and General Manager for HERE in Latin America. “For corporations, which is the ultimate goal of our event [LI Brazil], the platform has even more features, such as routes based on current traffic, future routes planning using historical traffic, routes for trucks with attributes, among others, including satellite images, added the executive.
Geographic intelligence for security and defense
Border security, drug and weapons dealing combat, crime prevention, monitoring of large crowds. All of this has Geointelligence in common, which supports researching, development, implementation and maintenance of geospatial tools for critical situations response.
Focusing on the great events that Brazil will host in the next years, Geointelligence for Defense and Security Forum presented on June 20, the strategic use of geospatial data. “A geographic information system allows not only the monitoring of the whole process of national security, but also provides predictive insight and situational awareness, common to the various areas concerned with the security of a country,” said João Canais, Esri Business Manager, a speaker in the Geointelligence Forum.
In the last lectures of the day, the usage of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) for security projects was discussed. “In my presentation about UAVs data plotation within a geographical platform, i demonstrated the analysis of multi-temporal changes, one of the most common operations used in defense, intelligence and security industry,” said Carlos Cardona, Solutions Architect for Esri Latin America.

In 2014 MundoGEO#Connect will take place 7-9 May at the Frei Caneca Convention Center, in Sao Paulo. There ir an expansion planned, corresponding to the fourth floor of the Convention Center, where innovative and challenging activities will be conducted.
