Blue Marble Geographics will be exhibiting at the NERCOFE 2014 Workshop at the University of Maine on March 10-11, 2014.  Throughout the conference Blue Marble will be demonstrating the LiDAR Module for Global Mapper and how it is utilized throughout the forestry industry. Blue Marble’s geospatial data manipulation, visualization and conversion solutions are used worldwide by thousands of GIS analysts at software, oil and gas, mining, civil engineering, surveying, and technology companies, as well as governmental and university organizations.

The NERCOFE 2014 Workshop is an annual event designed for Maine’s forestry students and professionals. This two-day event includes several presentations on GIS/GPS technology and discussion regarding Maine’s strategy to overcome the Spruce Budworm outbreak. Join Blue Marble for the perfect opportunity to learn, discuss, network and experience the latest developments in the industry.  Danielle Caron, Blue Marble’s Senior Accounts Manager, will be demonstrating the key benefits of Global Mapper v15.1 and how the LiDAR Module can be used to generate topographic data for forestry analysis and strategy planning. Blue Marble has also been asked to present a hands-on training class about using LiDAR data in Global Mapper.

The LiDAR Module is an optional add-on for Global Mapper, an affordable and easy-to-use GIS application that offers access to an unparalleled variety of spatial datasets. The applications key benefits to the forestry industry include the ability to quickly view and process LiDAR point clouds with a billion points or more. LiDAR analysis has become a widely used technique for generating high-resolution Digital Elevation Models (DEM), including terrain (DTM) and surface models (DSM). With the LiDAR Module users can post-process LiDAR data using popular techniques such as identifying, reclassifying and/or removing features. This process allows forestry and other professionals to then produce more accurate DEMs using Global Mapper.

Global Mapper can also be used to perform other tasks such as measuring forest canopies, buildings, or other structures, along with identifying ground information. Users of the LiDAR Module have the option to easily filter point clouds by classification and/or return type and edit points from the Path Profile Viewer. Users also have the advantage of faster gridding options for large amounts of data and the option to color LiDAR LAS/LAZ files from loaded imagery.

“We are pleased to be attending the NERCOFE 2014 Workshop,” stated Blue Marble President Patrick Cunningham. “We know our tools can help our users be efficient and productive at a great return on their investment and we are excited to share that information with forestry students and professionals.”
