Blue Marble Geographics is pleased to announce the release of the GeoCalc 7.0 software development kit (SDK). This release features new functionality to display and utilize the EPSG “Area of Use” Polygon dataset, improved Vertical Coordinate system handling, and new and improved Dominion Land Survey classes now provide utility functions for maximizing the usability of Survey Grid systems. Blue Marble’s geospatial data manipulation, visualization and conversion solutions are used worldwide by thousands of GIS analysts at software, oil and gas, mining, civil engineering, surveying, and technology companies, as well as governmental and university organizations.
GeoCalc is the leading coordinate transformation “engine” for converting data from one coordinate system to another and performing advanced geodetic calculations including HTDP time dependent shifts. Blue Marble’s flagship developer toolkit is an object-oriented class library that can be incorporated into applications written for multiple development platforms. GeoCalc can provide your GPS, surveying, engineering or mapping programs fast and accurate coordinate conversion and transformation capabilities. GeoCalc is found in the Geographic Calculator and many commercial GIS and survey applications.
GeoCalc Version 7.0 features new functionality to display and support EPSG “Area of Use” polygon data. This includes the integration of a new map interface into the transformation selection dialog, providing a display for polygons that can be used for selecting transformations, and the ability to filter results based on detailed area definitions identified by the user. These polygons put a powerful tool for selecting the best geographic reference systems and transformation at the user’s fingertips. The “Area of Use” also gives direct access to the underlying raw point datasets contained within the polygon, allowing developers to create an interface for users to visually see on a map where a coordinate system or transformation is intended to be used.
“Blue Marble is intimately familiar with the “Area of Use” polygons project having developed a beta version of the data for the OGP in 2011,” states Blue Marble President Patrick Cunningham. “We are pleased to make this new geomatic guidance tool available to our OEM partners and software developer customers. We will assist our customers with leveraging these guidance tools to improve the accuracy and reliability of coordinate transformation in their software.”
Additionally, version 7.0 features improved Vertical Coordinate system handling. This enhanced model now aligns with EPSG Vertical CRS definitions and includes the option to dynamically select vertical transformations. This provides the user with flexible transformation options when working with high accuracy elevation based data. The new and improved Dominion Land Survey classes provide utility functions for maximizing the usability of Survey Grid data. New methods provide not only conversion capabilities for the Alberta and Saskatchewan systems, but also give the user access to detailed information about the base grid. This allows developers to create an interface for users of Alberta and Saskatchewan land grids to plot layouts of points and lines directly from Dominion Land Survey coordinates in the context of the borders of the individual townships and ranges.
