Trimble, USA, will distribute a branded version of ClearEdge 3D’s EdgeWise software. The EdgeWise software uses automated feature extraction and modelling to reduce the time required for professionals to generate CAD models of pipes, conduit, structural steel and gridded concrete from data captured with 3D laser scanners. In combination with Trimble’s laser scanning instruments and Trimble RealWorks software, the EdgeWise software provides a workflow that can deliver time savings for professionals engaged in data collection, point cloud registration, editing and final modelling for industrial and building construction applications.
Trimble’s TX8 laser scanner can scan a station location in three minutes. The Trimble RealWorks version 10 software automates and simplifies multiple station scans and cleans field datasets to produce high-fidelity point clouds representing scanned subjects. Traditional methods to produce models of structural and process elements from these dense point clouds can according to Trimble take twice the time of the field collection and initial processing operations. EdgeWise augments Trimble’s strategy to provide efficient end-to-end workflows that result in accurate, actionable models and enables model deliverables to be imported as native objects with popular Building Information Modeling (BIM) applications. Trimble EdgeWise software automatically detects structural elements, pipes, conduit and other standardised components and models them using industry-standard dimensions and geometry.
The Trimble EdgeWise software is expected to be available in the fourth quarter of 2015 through Trimble’s Geospatial, MEP and BuildingPoint Distribution Channels.
