Catsurveys Group Ltd has developed an innovative geo-referencing system and process that allows the coupling of data generated with a vehicle towed Mobile Ground Penetrating Radar (MGPR) system and a Global Positioning System (GPS). The Catsurveys  MGPR system uses a unique synchronization process to rapidly link large quantities of GPR data with its accurate geographic location via GPS.

The MGPR uses a multitude of low and intermediate frequency antennas to boost the quality of data and its reliability. Double polarized antennas cover both longitudinal and transverse scans to create one of the clearest underground images available. The mobile feature of the system allows the recording of up to 50 linear kilometers per day with minimal impact on traffic and associated traffic management requirements, reducing health and safety risks and lowering cost when compared to traditional push GPR.

Proven benefits of the system:

• The identification of underground carriageway utilities, apparatus, structures, buried manholes, covers, chambers, culverts, tunnels, underground infrastructure not on records and confirming clear route space.
• Minimal Traffic Management required
• Reducing Health & Safety risks
• Eliminating unnecessary intrusive works
• Recording up to 50 linear kilometers per day
• Cost and time savings vs. traditional push GPR
• Accurate positioning with a combination of GPS and Total Station
• Enabling design based upon facts
• Assisting in BIM integration and clash detection

The MGPR system is and will be a key component for feasibly studies and civil engineering projects, providing a vision of where to carry out intrusive works, letting the user make the best informed decision possible before breaking any ground, reducing risks, costs and time.
