Airbus has announced that the CityAirbus NextGen eVTOL prototype made its maiden flight this week in Donauwörth, Germany, kicking off the flight test campaign for the European manufacturer’s electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft. “Another important step for Advanced Air Mobility at Airbus,” celebrated the company on social media.
The CityAirbus NextGen prototype was presented in March of this year along with the inauguration of the Airbus test center in Donauwörth, where the eVTOL will carry out the main tests, including the electric motors and eight rotors, aircraft systems, flight control and avionics.
The final model of the CityAirbus is expected to weigh two tons, have a wingspan of approximately 12 meters and is being developed to fly with a range of 80 km and reach a cruising speed of 120 km/h, making it suitable for operations in large cities for a variety of missions.
