In this occasion the Institute of Geomatics will held the module entitled Laser Ranging, Lidar, given by Dr. Peter Friess from 6th-10th October 2008.

The course addresses the fundamentals of Airborne Laser Mapping, as well as the practical application of this
technique. It provides a detailed look at each step of a laser mapping project from flight planning to product generation.

The theoretical part of the course introduces the basics of the underlying surveying techniques and emphasizes the specific procedures of airborne mapping. The physics of airborne laser ranging, the solution of the airborne sensor orientation problem, the mathematical models for laser point computation and the laser point block adjustment are subjects of the course.

All aspects that influence the quality of an airborne laser mapping product are addressed. The practical sessions
aim at consolidating certain aspects of the theory through exercises. These sessions are also designed to provide the opportunity for discussions and for addressing special issues the participants are interested in. The participants should be able to evaluate the performance characteristics of air borne laser mapping instruments and to asses the quality of the generated laser mapping products.
