MundoGEO, media and communication group that works on the production of content in the geotechnologies sector, and which maintains channels such as MundoGEO Portal and InfoGPS (http://infogps.uol.com.br), already counts with more than 10 thousand people connected in the main social networks. There are 6.100 followers in Twitter, 860 fans in Facebook and 1.200 members in LinkedIn, plus 2.050 members in GeoConnectPeople network and 62 more people registered on the YouTube Channel. Daily, these social networks receive several requests for participation coming from people all around the world.

MundoGEO’s mission, since its foundation, in 1998, has always been to disseminate geospatial solutions, through magazines, events and above all, through the internet. The participation of the group in the social networks comes to reinforce it. “The social networks are one more platform that we are making use of in order to move our mission forward. In this way, we offer the community some interactive channels that join people, they help us improve our products and they make us harmonize with the current stage of the communication sector”, states Emerson Granemann, MundoGEO’s director and publisher.

GeoConnectPeople

Besides being present in the main networks sites, MundoGEO has recently created a platform for the popularization and sharing of geoinformation, GeoConnectPeople (http://geoconnectpeople.org). Presenting an unpublished format worldwide, the network is directed to all geoinformation users who wish to share experiences, contacts and information on applications and tools linked to the sector, such as geoprocessing, Systems of Geographical Information (SIG), cartography, satellites images, GPS, Location-Based Services (LBS), etc..

In less than one month, GeoConnectPeople reached more than two thousand members and 70 groups. “We knew that there was a demand for a specific social net for the geo sector, but the community’s fast growth surprised us”, says Eduardo Freitas, mediator of GeoConnectPeople. “The members are already being organized into groups, according to the subjects or languages of their preference. There are people registered from all around the world, what makes GeoConnectPeople a global networking for the sharing of geoinformation”, concludes Mr.Freitas.
