GCS, a geospatial solutions firm, has hired CDR David Edgarton (USN, Ret.) as its new Director of Business Development. Edgarton, a former Commanding Officer of a U.S. Navy Electronic Attack Squadron, will focus on expanding GCS’ market as a leading international provider of custom Big Data solutions.

“GCS has developed Big Data innovations that leverage real-time streaming analytics to solve business problems for our clients,” said GCS President Alex Philp, PhD. “With his impressive Naval background in technology, engineering and combat leadership, David Edgarton is ideally suited to lead our business activities as we create new Big Data solutions for Cyber-Security, Defense/Intelligence, Energy, Healthcare, Government and other high-tech markets.”

A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, Edgarton flew more than 60 carrier-based combat missions as a Naval Flight Officer in an electronic warfare squadron. He later transitioned to the Pentagon, serving as a Requirements Officer managing more than $2 billion in advanced combat system procurements including Next Generation Jammer. Edgarton also earned a Master’s Degree from the U.S. Naval War College and an MBA from the University of Maryland.

“The business development role appealed to me because GCS has taken a unique approach to processing Big Data sets in real time,” said Edgarton. “Technical expertise coupled with flexibility and agility position GCS to become a dominant player in the Big Data market for years to come.”

GCS delivers highly customized solutions that communicate meaningful geographic information and enhance workflow optimization. GCS clients come from a broad spectrum of industry sectors with a common need: streamlined access to business insights distilled from massive, complex data sets. Technical expertise and collaborative client relationships allow the GCS team to design the powerful, elegant solutions needed to maximize productivity. GCS systems are crafted at the convergence of cloud, analytics, and mobility to ensure the entire enterprise can access answers everywhere, all the time.

“David Edgarton is one of several talented and energetic individuals we have brought onboard this year at GCS in accordance with our strategic business plan,” said Philp. “GCS will be recruiting additional personnel to our technical team in 2014.”
