Blue Marble Geographics announce the release of the Global Mapper Software Development Kit (SDK) version 15.1. This minor release features read/write support for MS SQL Server Spatial databases, as well as added functionality for saving workspace files and an update to the area feature manipulation. Blue Marble’s geospatial data manipulation, visualization and conversion solutions are used worldwide by thousands of GIS analysts at software, oil and gas, mining, civil engineering, surveying, and technology companies, as well as governmental and university organizations.

The Global Mapper SDK provides a Windows DLL, which allows software developers to include much of the functionality of Global Mapper within their own applications. The SDK includes both native 32-bit and 64-bit DLL’s, which can be implemented in any Windows operating system. This release features a variety of updates including support for MS SQL Spatial databases, which expands Global Mapper SDK support to most available spatial database types. Enhanced workspace management functionality allows users to save a workspace files with custom layer ordering or with a subset of layers. This release also features an updated GM_FindFeaturesInArea function, which includes the option to find partially overlapped lines and areas if users pass in a GM_FindFlags_PartialOk flag.

The 15.1 release also includes a new Recent File Types filter in the GM_SelectFiles dialog to track commonly used file types. As files are opened, those file types used most often will be added to that filter. It will start with the contents of the Commonly Used Formats filter, but will adapt over time as the software is used. The Global Mapper SDK now includes support for loading generic MS Access (MDB) files containing point data, with a prompt to select the fields that contain the coordinate parameters. This is especially useful for large point databases such as GPSeismic files. Note that because there is no 64-bit MS Access driver available, the 32-bit Global Mapper SDK must be used to load this data.
