The Association of Spanish Geographers (AGE) organises a biennial national congress on geographic information technologies. The latest editions have taken place in Granada (2006), Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (2008), Seville (2010) and Madrid (2012). The XVI Congress will take place in Alicante from 25 to 27 June 2014, sponsored by the University of Alicante, the Professional Geographers Association and the AGE.

The purpose of the meeting is to gather together a large group of experts – such as scientists, professionals, institutions and companies – to discuss about the latest developments in the field of geographic information technologies and highlight their strategic value for the economical and social development of Spain (natural resources, land management, tourism and citizen services, among others). With this integrated approach we outline the need for geographers, biologists, geologists, physicists, mathematicians, engineers, architects and other experts,  to work together and ensure that these technologies are used in an efficient way and help to promote a new territorial culture.
