Secure World Foundation and the Agência Espacial Brasileira (AEB) will host on August 19, 2020, 11:00 AM (BRT) a webinar on the topic of Opportunities and Benefits in Space Resources Utilization.

Government space agencies and private companies around the world have already started research into, and demonstration projects around, the necessary technologies to explore celestial bodies and use the resources found on those bodies.

The interest is explained by the potential value of these resources: a study Luxembourg Space Agency forecasts that “the space resources utilization industry is expected to generate a market revenue of up to 170 billion EUR over the years 2018 to 2045.”

Accessing these resources will require cooperation between industry and governments both inside of the space sector and outside of it, to ensure sustainable activities that provide benefit to all countries.

During this webinar speakers from space agencies, the space industry, and the terrestrial mining sector will introduce the opportunity represented by the emerging interest in space resources utilization – or space mining – as a key part of expanding human presence in space and in generating economic benefit from space activities. Speakers will also address the need to conduct space resources activities in a sustainable manner that enhances the beneficial use of space.

The webinar will include opportunity for the participants to submit questions to the speakers. The primary language for the event will be English.
