Lilium has announced that it has began a new phase of flight tests with the Phoenix 2, the German company’s eVTOL demonstrator. The testing period will take place over the coming months at the ATLAS Flight Test Center in Villacarrillo, Spain.

Lilium’s plan is to extend the flight envelope through full transition and high-speed flight, in a complement of tests that took place in 2021 with this aircraft in Germany.

Lilium also plans to introduce an additional eVTOL demonstrator in Spain, the Phoenix 3. The aircraft is scheduled to arrive in the country in the European summer. This aircraft is expected to significantly accelerate the flight test campaign, allowing Lilium to increase learnings and reduce program risks.

The choice for the location was due to weather conditions, as well as the infrastructure of the ATLAS Flight Center Test and the possibility of the aircraft to fly over a large, unpopulated area.

“We are excited to have kicked off our next phase of flight testing in Spain. This step takes us even closer to reaching our goal of creating a sustainable and accessible mode of high-speed, low noise regional air mobility.”

Daniel Wiegand, co-founder and CEO of Lilium.
